I think the b&w is the better one IMHO. The steam comes out better in contrast on the b&w and we don't have the distraction of the colour which dilutes the impact a little.
The only thing I can come up with as a slight improvement is to do a little selective highlight lifting on the faces of the two guys working. We tend to concentrate our attention onto peoples faces and these guys need a bit more detail - what do you think!

I love black and white for shots like this. The color shots have too many distractions in my opinion. This is an awesome gritty city shot. I LOVE it. I only wish the guy on the opposite side of the street wasn't there but I know it's very difficult, nearly impossible, not to get extra people in these kinds of shots taken in the city.

I like your frame here, but maybe if it were shifted slightly upwards and to the left. There is just a lot of dead space on the bottom righthand side that makes the picture uneven. Also, was this picture digitally manipulated at all? Because I think you could play with contrast a bit more.

My favorite part is the smoke. It's very clear...not blurry at all which makes all the difference. The railings are also very clear which adds a bit of character. This also factors into the whole shifting the picture over. If it was a bit more concentrated on the smoke and the railings which are great parts of the picture, it would be a stronger peice.

Anyways, great job, you've got the eye for it. The best part about a photographer is that they see/capture value in things that no one else does.

I love the mysterious feeling in this shot with the police car disappearing into the steam. and I think the black and white version is much more interesting as it appears less like ordinary life. Great composition.
